++General Information

+++When Does a Rider Cross the Finish-line?
*For visual observation (including cameras), the rider is finished when the leading edge of their front tire breaks the invisible plane above the edge of the finish-line. The edge of the finish-line the side closest to the racers.
*When a timing strip is in use, the rider is finished then their front tire makes contact with the strip.
*When timing chips are in use, the rider is finished when their chip crosses the sensor.

+++Number Placement
Proper number placement is a major concern for judges. When a numbers rider is now properly placed, it makes a judges job all the harder. Here are some examples of number placement problems:

  • placed to high and near the center of the back to be seen by the judge or camera
  • number is too low and forward to be seen by the judge or camera
  • number is in the center of the back, not visible from the side
  • placed upside down
  • covered by hair
  • covered by a vest or coat
  • folded when the rider is in race position
